  • If the heart does not work properly, the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys may become damaged. Pimobendan dilates blood vessels and also increases heart muscle contractions.

  • Piperazine is used to control roundworms. Your veterinarian will advise a deworming programme for your pet.

  • When a portosystemic shunt (PSS) is present blood in the portal vein effectively bypasses the liver, i.e it is shunted straight into the caudal vena cava, a major vein returning blood to the heart.

  • Potassium bromide is used to control seizures (fits). Your veterinarian will prescribe this medication at the same time as another treatment to control fits.

  • Praziquantel is used to treat tapeworm infestation in dogs and cats. Your veterinarian will advise a deworming programme for your pet.

  • Prednisolone is a corticosteroid. This type of medication is used to relieve inflamed areas, decrease swelling, redness, itching, allergic reactions and for supportive care during periods of stress.

  • Primidone is used to help control seizures (fits) in dogs and cats. It may be used alone or with other medication.

  • Proligesterone is a progestogen hormone, which inhibits oestrus (heat) by suppressing the production of hormones by the pituitary gland. It is used to postpone and suppress oestrus in dogs and cats and reduce the symptoms of false pregnancy in dogs.

  • Promethazine is an antihistamine. Antihistamines are used to relieve or prevent the symptoms of allergy. Your veterinarian may prescribe this medication for allergic respiratory disease or other allergic disorders.

  • Propantheline is an antimuscarinic drug, which reduces smooth muscle spasm. It is used to treat urinary incontinence due to unstable muscle contraction and it is also used for disorders of the intestines characterised by muscle spasm.
