Medications & Supplements

  • Your pet needs pancreatic enzymes to help digest protein, fat, and starch in the animal's food. Supplements are used to provide additional pancreatic enzymes when your pet produces insufficient amounts such as in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

  • Pancreatitis describes an inflammation in the pancreas. The pancreas is an organ situated next to the liver and small intestine.

  • This is an immune mediated condition affecting the cornea or clear part of the eye. It occurs primarily in middle aged German Shepherd dogs.

  • Penicillamine is used in the treatment of cystine stones (calculi, uroliths) affecting the urinary system. Your veterinarian may also prescribe a special diet and medication to change the pH of the urine.

  • Pentosan polysulphate helps cartilage to repair. It binds to damaged cartilage and stimulates production of new cartilage. It is used for the treatment of arthritis in dogs.

  • Permethrin is an antiparasitic agent prescribed by your veterinarian for control of fleas, ticks, lice, and blowfly larvae (fly strike) on rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and mice.

  • Phenobarbital is used to help control seizures (fits) in dogs and cats. It may be used alone or with other medication.

  • Phenylbutazone is a synthetic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve pain and inflammation.

  • Phenylpropanolamine stimulates and tightens the bladder sphincter. It is used to treat dogs unable to hold their urine (urinary incontinence), especially female dogs that have had an ovariohysterectomy (spay, neuter).

  • Phytomenadione is used to treat animals that have been poisoned with warfarin or coumarin anticoagulants (e.g. certain rodenticides). These poisons may cause bleeding problems in the animal.
